In 2003 a worldwide petition calling for the reunion of Southern Rock Legends Blackfoot, caught the attention of founding members Jakson Spires, Charlie Hargrett, Greg T. Walker and former Blackfoot lead guitarist Bobby Barth. Calls were made, hoops jumped through, a tap dance here and there and in 2004 the guys got together to meet and check out the possibility of a reunion. Before the first note was struck, it was agreed that, should the band be unable to meet or exceed the expectations of both the members and the fans, it would not happen.
A few words about the Musicians. As times goes by, and musicians grow older, a choice must be made. To continue to learn and expand or to sit back in the easy chair and relax. From the first song it was obvious that all the members had gotten better at their jobs, as a fan, to hear those tracks played with that intensity was a thrill. The vote was quick and unanimous, Blackfoot was back!
A tragic loss was suffered by the band on March 16, 2005 with the passing of Jakson Spires. As luck would have it, drummer Christoph Ullmann from Vienna was visiting at the time and was kind enough to take over as drummer. Another speed bump occurred in early 2006 when Barth was forced off the road for health reasons. The band called upon old friend Jay Johnson (son of famed Swamper Jimmy Johnson) to step in until Barth could return. In late 2006 the stage was set for Barth�s return and by early 2007 the band was back up and running. They were joined by New Orleans drummer Michael Sollars and are back as close as possible to the original lineup.
One of the hardest working, multi Gold and Platinum acts to hit the charts and perform the world's stages are once more performing their classic tracks like Train Train, Highway Song, Baby Blue, Fox Chase, Left Turn, Fly Away and others as well as new songs. Having completed over 120 shows already and there are no plans to slow down.
Blackfoot's bold and long history are what legends are made of. Touring the world with bands such as The Who, Deep Purple, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Ted Nugent, to name a few have helped to solidify their place in rock music. Blackfoot's headline tours gave America their first taste of bands like Def Leppard, Scorpions, Iron Maiden and others who opened for them.
Blackfoot has left their mark in Southern Rock, the term Southern Metal was first coined to describe the band. Their history is a thing of legend and they have left their fingerprint on countless bands that came after them. Blackfoot is back, now we all have a chance to hear the real thing again for a long time to come.
